How Velvet Rose Events Planned the Ultimate Dog-Themed Party
How Velvet Rose Events Planned the Ultimate Dog-Themed 1st and 5th Birthday Party
Birthdays are always special, but when you combine a first birthday milestone with the excitement of turning five, you get a celebration that’s double the joy and double the fun! Recently, Velvet Rose Events had the joy of styling and planning a dog-themed birthday party for two siblings, a baby turning one and their big sister turning five and it turned out to be one of the most heartwarming and playful events we’ve ever organized.
With a theme that kids and adults alike could connect with, the party was full of paw prints, balloons, dog-inspired crafts, and plenty of tail-wagging excitement. Here’s a full recap of how it all came together.
We made our way down to Whitstable in Kent on a wet Saturday Morning. We set up outside in the rain with the hope of the weather blowing over & by the time the party started it was lovely and bright.
Why a Dog-Themed Party?
At Velvet Rose Events, we believe that every milestone deserves to be celebrated with love, creativity, and a touch of magic. Dogs are universally loved by babies, toddlers, and older kids alike, so a puppy birthday party theme was the perfect middle ground to celebrate two very different ages. The one-year-old got soft, cuddly activities, while the five-year-old enjoyed crafts and games with a little more independence. Best of all, parents and guests instantly connected with the theme, making it fun for everyone.
Setting the Scene: Dog-Themed Décor
Velvet Rose Events is known for transforming ordinary spaces into Instagram-worthy experiences, and this dog-themed birthday was no exception: The moment guests walked in, they were greeted by a canine-inspired wonderland. The colour palette was a request from the parents of the event & it was kept fun and light with shades of orange, pink, blue, green, yellow, and white, paired with classic dog bones that tied everything together.
Balloon Displays: We created giant balloon garlands with paw-print balloons, bone-shaped foil balloons, and plenty of bright pops of colour. They framed the entrance & created a photo backdrop. These were attached to our 6ft white hoop.
Happy Birthday sign: Was placed in the middle of the 6ft hoop & switched on for full Happy Birthday effect.
Half arch: Happy Birthday signage added to our half arch & dog bunting.
Freestanding Floral Arrangements: A Blooming Statement. One of the most commented-on features of the event was our stunning freestanding floral arrangements.
🐾 Dog Collar Signage: A Unique Craft Idea
Kids love crafts that feel playful and personalised, and that’s where dog collar signage comes in. Think of it as making a “name tag” for a pet—or even for themselves!
How It Works:
Provide simple craft supplies: a little dog, beads & pipe cleaner.
Kids design a “collar tag” with their name, a funny title (“Super Pup,” “Birthday Buddy,” “Party Hero”).
Attach the tag to a pipe cleaner, & beads of choice and simply twist onto the collar.
This activity sparks imagination and gives kids a keepsake to remember the party.
The décor was immersive but still soft and welcoming, perfect for a first birthday while still exciting enough for the older kids.
Double the Celebration: First & Fifth
Balancing a first birthday with a fifth birthday can be tricky, but the dog theme gave us a playful middle ground.
For the one-year-old, the parents rented a bouncy castle and kept out garden toys for all kids to play with.
For the five-year-old, the bouncy castle was also fun, the crafts were a hit, and there were lots of toys to play with.

For our 1st and 5th birthday celebration, the dog theme tied everything together perfectly. From the décor to the activities, every detail made the siblings feel special while giving guests plenty to enjoy.
